Please pray for our Confirmandi. Archbishop Dunn will soon celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation with our youth. These young people have been waiting for this day since the start of the pandemic. Let us pray that on their Confirmation Day, they will come together to complete the sacraments of initiation.

Discipleship Quads
Not just another small group program or Bible study ...
A Discipleship Quad is a group of four people who journey together as disciples through weekly gatherings of fellowship, ongoing conversion, and learning. This 44 week path of accompaniment fosters growth through prayer, accountability, and authentic relationships in a proven format. Out of a passion to combat these obstacles and help people to have the relationship with Christ they desire, Franciscan University of Steubenville has created the Discipleship Quad.
We are seeking people to start up a Discipleship Quad. All the materials will be provided. Open to all members of Corpus Christi. Materials will be sent to your community church.
Jennifer Moore, our Director of Family Life and Youth, is excited to bring Empowered by the Sacraments to all the children of Corpus Christi Parish!!
Registration is open now!
Empowered by the Sacraments is for children in Grade 3. Children will prepare together to receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion. Children from across the parish will meet in a series of interactive Zoom sessions as they grow in faith together. Special in-person sessions will take place throughout the year and children will receive their Sacraments in their own church communities.
The Empower Program for all children will return later this year as Covid restrictions ease. New dates for the Sacraments will be announced.

Confirmation
2021 - 2022
The Confirmation program offers teens (born in 2006 & earlier), an opportunity to explore their faith in real and relevant ways as they encounter the working of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Teens from across the parish will be introduced to a variety of theme topics in a monthly Zoom meeting. Each week teens will meet in small groups, in their own faith communities, to explore and discuss these topics. Special events throughout the year will bring all teens together as they journey together.
Did you know that ‘Tyrannosaurus Rex’ is considered ‘king of the dinosaurs’? God created all things and made Jesus the King of kings!
Families and Youth are invited to participate in building a pumpkin display as our Parish’s contribution to the Kentville Pumpkin People Festival! Each family or group will create one figure: Jesus, T-Rex, or another dinosaur and these will be displayed on the lawn at Corpus Christi Saint Joseph Kentville. Materials will be supplied.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul
The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul has a Conference at Corpus Christi St. Francis (Wolfville). SSVP offers emergency aid to those in our area in need of: food, medical, rent, utilities, etc.
SSVP offers hands on contact and support – meeting those in need in their homes. The group generally meets monthly through the fall, winter and spring (some adjustments have been necessary due to COVID) and meetings are open to anyone interested in learning more. The SSVP can always use active support from volunteers, but financial and prayer support is also critical to its success. “Thank you”, for your consideration and for those who have offered continued support!

Chalice is a Catholic international aid charity focused on child, family, and community development. They work closely with lay people, religious missionaries, and local communities to provide care for the many children and families caught in the dehumanizing grip of poverty. This month they are highlighting the radiance of their Asia region.

CCCB Apology to Indigenous Communities and Pledge of Financial Support
Last week the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) met virtually for their annual plenary to discuss matters of faith and the pastoral care of Catholic Canadians. A key topic of discussion was their strong desire and commitment to work with indigenous communities across Canada to find a path towards reconciliation.
At the conclusion of their meetings the Canadian bishops released a Statement of Apology by the Catholic Bishops of Canada to the Indigenous Peoples of This Land. In this statement they acknowledge the Church’s role in the residential school system, apologize for the horrible abuses experienced by students, and express their pledge to work with indigenous communities to develop pastoral and financial supports to promote listening to and learning from the indigenous experience.
To support these efforts, the CCCB circulated a media release this past week announcing a $30M national financial pledge to develop initiatives that focus on healing and reconciliation.

The Holy Father designated this year a Year of Saint Joseph to encourage the faithful to learn more about the spouse of the Blessed Mother and foster father of Jesus. Church Attendance Update
We are now in Phase 4 of the provincial government's reopening plan. In Phase 4 the maximum number of participants for faith gatherings increased but all other Covid protocols remain. Please continue to register, sanitize, wear masks and sit where assigned by the ushers and to remain seated until directed by an usher to leave. Do not come to Mass if you have any symptoms of Covid or if you are feeling unwell.
The next phase - Phase V - is expected to deploy on September 15 provided we, as a Province, have reached 75% of the population fully vaccinated.
On August 26, Archbishop Dunn issued a statement encouraging all to get vaccinated.
In-person Masses resumed the weekend of July 3 / 4. All the same Covid protocols still apply. Pre-registering for Mass makes it easier for everyone, so please follow your church community's procedure for registering for Mass. Knowing who you are is important. As followers of Christ, we know we are sons and daughters of Christ, individually. Yet we live our faith communally as part of a parish. What is the identity of your parish. In the last 18 months, the parishes of the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth have not only lived a new reality in light of a global pandemic but ALSO as new parishes.
“Evangelization – proclaiming the good news of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ – is the primary activity of the Church. Each new Parish must have a plan for evangelization with a commitment to a particular program of evangelization. Significant time, energy, and resources should be invested in reaching the various audiences of the new evangelization: those who have never heard the Word of God, those who have heard the Word of God but fallen away, and those who have heard the Word of God yet require ever deepening conversion”

Parishioners can donate books and sacramentals to the Library so they can be passed on to others. Mary Crooks, who leads this Ministry, tells the Bulletin, "Often, someone will come to me looking for a certain item, such as a Bible, and I will have it for them due to the generosity of others. Sometimes people bring religious items that belonged to their parents and they want me to find a good home for them. The Holy Spirit has a great way of matching a gift with the right person."If you have extra Bibles, Catholic books, rosaries, crucifixes, holy cards, statues, greeting cards, or religious items, please contact Mary Crooks at 902-825-6495 who will add them to our library or make them available to others.

First in a Series of Questions & Answers from our Canadian Bishops
“When the Canadian Bishops came together in Plenary Assembly last week, there was consensus that Catholic entities needed to do more to address the suffering experienced in Canada’s residential schools.” (CCCB)
Over the next two to three weeks, we will provide you with some more information from our Bishops. This is the first in a series of Questions & Answers from our Canadian Bishops. They have prepared these Q&A to provide answers to some commonly asked questions. Here is the first instalment:
Q.
Earlier this year, multiple media outlets reported that the Church fell short of its financial commitments to residential school survivors. How can your apology be taken seriously when you are unable to meet these basic commitments?
A.
The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops was not a signatory to the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement and cannot specifically comment on the fundraising goals of participating Catholic entities. What we can say, is that we know there’s an acute need to do more. That’s why the Bishops are pledging to undertake fundraising in each region of the country to support the work of healing and reconciliation, with an overall financial pledge of $30M.
We expect these efforts to be informed by meaningful consultation with Indigenous partners, with spirited grassroots efforts across the country. Inspired by these consultations, we have committed to developing and announcing a national fundraising plan, including financial targets, in November.

Did you consult with Indigenous Peoples on this apology?
A.
Our approach to the healing and reconciliation journey has been informed by the principle that we should not speak about Indigenous Peoples without speaking with them. We have had ongoing conversations with Indigenous leaders, both at the local and national levels, and bilaterally with First Nations, Métis and Inuit national organizations.
At our national Plenary Assembly, Canadian bishops were presented with statements from Indigenous
leaders and much of our work is informed by ongoing contributions from the Our Lady of Guadalupe Circle, a coalition of Catholic organizations and individuals working together to renew and foster relationships with Indigenous Peoples in Canada, and the Canadian Catholic Indigenous Council, an advisory body of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. We will continue to be inspired and motivated by these conversations as we walk together along the path of hope in the coming years.

Are you committed to implementing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission calls to action?
A.
All of our efforts that relate to healing and reconciliation are directly informed by conversations with Indigenous Peoples, whether they be survivors, Elders, knowledge keepers, or youth. The path to reconciliation is long and difficult, but we are committed to every step of this journey.
We are pledging to undertake fundraising in each region of the country to support initiatives discerned locally with Indigenous partners. Furthermore, we invite Indigenous Peoples, especially Elders and knowledge keepers, to help us provide education for our clergy and consecrated men and women, and lay faithful, on Indigenous cultures and spirituality. We commit ourselves to continue the work of providing documentation or records that will assist in the memorialization of those buried in unmarked graves. And we are moving forward with the delegation of Indigenous survivors, Elders/Knowledge keepers, and youth that will meet with Pope Francis in December 2021.
