Emilie is this year’s recipient of the Knights of Columbus Bursary.
On August 22, a representative of the Knights of Columbus Council 6297 (Greenwood/Middleton), presented Emilie with a $1000 bursary toward her post secondary studies at the 10 am Mass at St. Monica’s Middleton.

The Kings-Kikima Grannies began about 12 years ago to help grandmothers in Africa who are raising their grandchildren because their children have died from HIV/AIDS. They are grandmothers and grand-others from Kings County Nova Scotia who are connected with a group of 30 grandmothers in Kikima, Kenya who are raising their grandchildren and who need support.
Chalice is a Catholic international aid charity focused on child, family, and community development. They work closely with lay people, religious missionaries, and local communities to provide care for the many children and families caught in the dehumanizing grip of poverty. This month they are highlighting the radiance of their Asia region.

STUDENTS, that You would ease any anxiety they may have about going back to school amidst the pandemic. We pray for the safety, health, and well-being of those returning to in-person classes. May each student young, older, new, or soon to graduate find a supportive network of friends and family and the perseverance to face every challenge with Your strength.
PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS, that You would grant them wisdom in their decisions and choices in their child’s schooling. Ease their concerns and worries as they send their children off to school. We pray for your provision for the physical, spiritual, emotional, and financial wellbeing of all families. We pray for a support system that they can turn to when the challenges of life are overwhelming.
TEACHERS, SCHOOL STAFF AND ADMINISTRATION, that You would grant them peace and discernment in their decision making. We pray for wisdom for school leaders, and for the safety of every staff person on every school campus. May they feel supported by their communities as they educate our children.
In Jesus name we pray,

Mass for the Faithful Departed
September 15, is the Feast of our Lady of Sorrows. Traditionally, a Mass is celebrated each year at Our Lady of Sorrows Chapel on the grounds of Holy Cross Cemetery in honour of this feast day. This year is no exception! This Mass for the Faithful Departed will happen at 5:00pm on Wednesday, September 15. Due to COVID - 19 protocols, the Mass will be celebrated outside the chapel. Attendees are asked to bring their own chair. In the event of rain, the Mass will be held at Saint Mary’s Cathedral Basilica.
The Mass will also be available by livestream broadcast. A link will be on the diocesan website on the day of the Mass: www.halifaxyarmouth.org

Archbishop Dunn has invited the faithful to renew their devotion to Saint Joseph. The Holy Father designated this year a Year of Saint Joseph to encourage the faithful to learn more about the spouse of the Blessed Mother and foster father of Jesus. Church Attendance Update
We are now in Phase 4 of the provincial government's reopening plan. In Phase 4 the maximum number of participants for faith gatherings increased but all other Covid protocols remain. Please continue to register, sanitize, wear masks and sit where assigned by the ushers and to remain seated until directed by an usher to leave. Do not come to Mass if you have any symptoms of Covid or if you are feeling unwell.
The next phase - Phase V - is expected to deploy on September 15 provided we, as a Province, have reached 75% of the population fully vaccinated.
On August 26, Archbishop Dunn issued a statement encouraging all to get vaccinated.
In-person Masses resumed the weekend of July 3 / 4. All the same Covid protocols still apply. Pre-registering for Mass makes it easier for everyone, so please follow your church community's procedure for registering for Mass. Knowing who you are is important. As followers of Christ, we know we are sons and daughters of Christ, individually. Yet we live our faith communally as part of a parish. What is the identity of your parish. In the last 18 months, the parishes of the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth have not only lived a new reality in light of a global pandemic but ALSO as new parishes.
“Evangelization – proclaiming the good news of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ – is the primary activity of the Church. Each new Parish must have a plan for evangelization with a commitment to a particular program of evangelization. Significant time, energy, and resources should be invested in reaching the various audiences of the new evangelization: those who have never heard the Word of God, those who have heard the Word of God but fallen away, and those who have heard the Word of God yet require ever deepening conversion”

Parishioners can donate books and sacramentals to the Library so they can be passed on to others. Mary Crooks, who leads this Ministry, tells the Bulletin, "Often, someone will come to me looking for a certain item, such as a Bible, and I will have it for them due to the generosity of others. Sometimes people bring religious items that belonged to their parents and they want me to find a good home for them. The Holy Spirit has a great way of matching a gift with the right person."If you have extra Bibles, Catholic books, rosaries, crucifixes, holy cards, statues, greeting cards, or religious items, please contact Mary Crooks at 902-825-6495 who will add them to our library or make them available to others.
