A Letter from Deacon Paul
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As you are aware, in May of last year I took a voluntary leave of absence from active Diaconal ministry within the Archdiocese of Halifax/Yarmouth.
Over the course of the past fifteen years, I have tried to respond to the diaconal call through such areas as working with homeless adults at our Inn From the Cold program; in being a presence to those who may need pastoral care or spiritual guidance; or with many others, in the sharing of significant life events, such as their wedding, their child’s baptism, or their own sickness and death. Of course, there also were the various church committees and meetings, as well as Sunday morning liturgies. It always has been a tremendous privilege to share such sacred space with so many people.
This past year, I have been discerning my future as a Deacon within Corpus Christi Parish. My journey through this process was one of discovery, one of surprise, one of immense gratitude, and one of peace. Know that my decision was not born of haste, but of a significant period of prayer and reflection. Also, know that it is where my life needs to be at this time.
Through this period, my discernment has led me to "retire" from active diaconal ministry, effective immediately. I have met with Archbishop Brian Dunn and he has confirmed my request. I continue to have the ability to perform the role of an “active” Deacon, if called upon, but would not be in active service. At this time, my key vocations are my family and my work, where I know ministry is happening every day. Other areas of service will be in my future, but I will take some time to discern what they may be.
It has been both an honour and a privilege to serve you as a Deacon these past fifteen years. I have enjoyed meeting and getting to know so many of you, hearing your stories, sharing your joys and sadness, and serving you as I was able. Thank you for your generosity of heart and spirit towards me. I have been richly blessed by serving in this Parish.
In closing, I’d like to thank you for your support and friendship over many years. I have been very blessed to have many wonderful people in my life and I look forward to sharing much of our future together.
May God’s love be with us all and may we all be an instrument of His peace.
Blessings and Peace,
Deacon Paul
